EARLY CHILDHOOD PROGRAM
Ages 3 to 5 - This creative tap/modern ballet combination class is great outlet for your young mover to express themselves and learn about their body through movement. This high energy class will keep your child moving! The tap portion of the class focuses on fundamental steps that will help to build a solid foundation for the tapper. During the ballet portion of the class, which begins with basic ballet steps, the children are encouraged to creatively express themselves through various movements as a group and individually. The dance concepts learned in this class will improve the overall coordination, concentration, confidence, flexibility, and social/emotional skills in the child.
Ages 8 to 12 - In this beginner Jazz class we learn the building blocks and techniques of Jazz. By incorporating all styles of Jazz we learn about the artists that have contributed to the distinctive style of Jazz dance! We learn about technique and style and how to use our bodies to form shapes. Every class begins with stretching and loosening, while learning about, our
muscles. This is a high energy class, must be prepared to work!
Ages 9 to 13 - This class focuses on classic jazz technique where the dancer will be led through a series of warm up exercises that build upon each other. Barre work, center work, and across the floor exercises allows the class to progress systematically so that both mind and body are engaged. Balance and coordination are achieved by incorporating basic ballet into the warm up.
Combinations round off the hour.
Ages 10 to 14 - This class strengthens and stretches the body
developing body awareness and musicality. We focus on technique through jumps, leaps, and turns. Students learn routines ranging from Broadway to Contemporary developing their ability to learn choreography.
Ages 8 to 12 - In beginner tap we learn the building blocks of tap. We learn how to use our feet, body, and weight to create rhythms and sounds. In this class we incorporate all styles of tap from Rhythm Tap to Street Tap. This class is for the serious student looking to learn how to tap to the best of their abilities with style and skill.
Ages 9 to 13 – Classic tap technique and clarity of sound come together making this tap class an excellent stepping stone for moving up to the next level. This is where the vocabulary of tap steps will grow to creating phrases and progressions developing the ability to learn and retain choreography.
Ages 6 to 14 - Working on the traditional dance technique, students learn the foundations to all other dance styles. Students are
introduced to turns and leaps by working on the articulation of the body with exercises at the barre. Barre exercises both stretch and strengthen the legs, arms and core. Students develop discipline, poise and focus in addition to the ability to move gracefully with this classic dance technique.
Ages 12 to 16 - Pointe is intended for advanced dancers who have 3+ years of ballet training. Pointe readiness is evaluated based on physical strength, development and maturity. Acceptance into this class is on an invitation only basis. Troupe ballet is a required prerequisite.
Ages 6 to 8 - Funky and rhythmic, this class incorporates strength building and stretching with dance technique to build stamina. Students work on learning choreography quickly and accurately. This includes a variety of contemporary hip hop routines
emphasizing rhythm and precision.
Ages 7 to 13 - Calling all funky movers who dare to be different! This high energy hip hop class will have you busting a move to your favorite, age-appropriate songs. Students will learn hip hop techniques including street dance, break dancing, whacking and more.
Ages 5 to 8 - Tap/Jazz combo is perfect for dancers who have a passion for learning. In tap, students will improve their rhythm and
coordination. In jazz, students will learn how to stylize their movement and do learn an introduction to the basics of leaps, jumps and turns. It's a sure win-win to have both of these styles all in one class. Students will leave class understanding why tap and jazz fit so perfectly hand in hand.
Modern 1 (ages 7-10): Modern dance not only challenges the body to its physical limits and beyond, it equally challenges the mind. This class will serve as an introduction to contemporary/modern dance styles of movement (including Graham and release
techniques) that make us closely analyze our relationship with the floor, the air, and the space between. Through our exploration we will discover the fundamentals of modern, post-modern, and contemporary dance styles. This class will push you to utilize your entire body and discover new ways of moving and learning movement.
Modern 2 (ages 11+): Although primarily a movement course, dance in practice is an art form that challenges the mind and body together. In this class you will be exposed to modern dance styles and movement, focusing on the release of the body and our
connectivity to the floor and air. Dance has its own language and history; we will be exploring our own dance histories and the ways in which all dance is intertwined, creating related links amongst individuals. The emphasis of this class is to encourage full-bodied movement and proficiency in improvisation.
Musical Theater: Class focuses on performance, musicality, and bringing your own self to your work. Through the warm-up and across the floor exercises, students will develop their technique as a foundation. Choreography taught each week as well as video history familiarizes students with diverse styles, promotes self-confidence, and allows each student to develop their performance skills in an encouraging environment.
Lyrical Jazz - Open Level
Dancers will combine flexibility, strength, and technique with emotion. This creates an expression of a song's lyrics and mood; telling a story through use of dynamics and initiation of movement and a sense of breath vs. control. The dancer is able to express their individuality and elements of the story by using elements of ballet, contemporary, and classical jazz.
Have you ever said: “I’ve always wanted to take tap”? This is your opportunity to try a class, commitment free. This class is for
anyone over 18 looking to learn classic tap repertory. You will learn combinations and rhythms which will be incorporated into a routine. All levels are welcome. Join in with other adults to have some fun and meet fellow Tap enthusiasts.
Troupe/Senior tap is for the serious, well versed student. This is a fast paced, high energy class that requires seriousness and the love for dance. In this class we exercise our strong vocabulary in tap, while incorporate a wide variety of tap styles. Each week we will learn something new while incorporating what we have already learned.
This advanced level ballet class builds on the fundamental dance concepts and encourages dancers to enhance their technique, performance, and expression. A strong emphasis is placed on moving efficiently and dynamically to prevent injury. Students will learn the correct placement, alignment and terminology so that they are free to soar to new heights.
This intense senior level jazz class incorporates core strength and solid technique. Advanced technique and star quality performance are the main focus of this award winning Troupe class.
Dancers reach new heights of expression through interpretive movement. Strong technique and advanced skills built in Troupe Jazz are accessed to tell a story through dance.
